Cable Ties: Types and Applications

Nylon cable tie

Cable ties are widely used to harness bundle items, mostly wires. To meet the desired applications, cable ties are usually made out of nylon grade 6.6 so that they can ensure strength. Cable ties are also available miniature sizes for small loads, and they are also available in long lengths with higher tensile strength to hold larger item. Ties feature serrated teeth on one end, and meet the desired function by locking inside the heat that remains on the other side. Several manufacturers are known to provide the best grade cable ties, in custom specifications, to meet desired holding requirements. In special cases, cable ties may also be manufactured in UV protected variations.

Types and applications of cable ties

Cable ties provide a great help in organizing wiring systems by sorting cables together. Specific applications include their use in telecommunication, home theater equipment, speaker wires, and transportation. These ties vary in composition to meet indoor and outdoor use requirements.

Nylon cable tie

These are constructed out of 6.6 grade nylon and are great for general purpose applications. These are usually resistant to chemicals, grease and oils. In order to meet application specifications, the ties should also meet a flammability resistance requirement. Manufacturers are also required to indicate it on the cable ties. These ties may be manually adjusted, and even with various pneumatic tools to cut down the installation time. For higher temperatures, suitable nylon grade is 4.6.

UV protected cable ties

These are also called as black cable ties and are suitable for outdoor applications. They are also resistant to oils and grease. Additionally, they are resistant to environmental contaminants. These cable ties are suitable for applications where high tensile and holding strength is required. Nylon 12 grade material is preferred for fabrication of these cable ties.
